A hot meal every school day for 240 children

Posho, beans and a cup of porridge for every child at a village primary school for a full school year.

A crowd of smiling children with their hands raised

The story

Teachers at the primary school tell us the same thing every term: attendance drops when there is nothing to eat at school. Many of the 240 pupils walk more than an hour to class and go home to a single evening meal. A child who has not eaten does not learn, and often does not come at all.

This appeal pays for a hot lunch on every school day of the year: maize flour, beans, cooking oil and firewood, bought from farmers in the same sub-county, and a cup of porridge at morning break for the youngest. Two cooks from the parents' committee are paid a modest wage.

The school keeps a daily attendance and meals register that our team checks on each visit. We publish the numbers in our updates so you can see what your gift is doing.
