A medical team, medicines and transport for a one-day clinic in a village that is 40 kilometres from the nearest health centre.
The village is 40 kilometres of dirt road from the nearest health centre, and a motorcycle ride there costs more than most families earn in a week. Fevers go untreated, wounds get infected and pregnant women are seen for the first time when they are already in labour.
Together with a district hospital, our team organizes a one-day clinic in the village: a doctor, two nurses and a midwife, basic medicines, malaria tests, deworming for children, antenatal checks and referrals for the cases that need the hospital. We cover the medicines, the transport and the team's day.
Past outreach days have seen between 400 and 550 patients. This page is updated with the number of people seen, the main conditions treated and the referrals made.
The goal of $8,500 is planned as follows. Receipts and photos are posted in the updates below as the money is spent.
Our team spent the day at the village school: deworming and malaria tests for every child, a health talk with the parents and a hot meal for everyone. The medical outreach appeal pays for the medicines and the clinical team.
