Clean water for Kyotera village

A protected spring and two rainwater tanks, so 300 families stop walking two hours a day for water that makes their children sick.

The story

In Kyotera, the nearest clean water is a two-hour walk from the village. Most families send their daughters, who miss the first lessons of the day, and during the dry season the open spring they rely on runs low and muddy. Clinic records in the area list diarrhoeal illness among the main reasons children under five are brought in.

This appeal funds a protected spring with a concrete catchment and a short pipe to a tap stand at the center of the village, plus two 10,000-litre rainwater tanks at the primary school. A water committee elected by the village keeps the tap stand clean, collects a small maintenance fee and holds the spare parts.

Our team surveyed the spring in September with a local technician, agreed the plan with the village council and will be on site for the works. Photos and receipts are posted on this page as the work moves forward.

Use of funds

Updates

Seven villagers, four of them women, were elected to run the new tap stand and the rainwater tanks. They agreed the maintenance fee and where the spare parts will be kept. The spring works start as soon as the appeal reaches its goal.
